How to unlock boot loader on Moto E and how to root Moto E?

Rooting Moto E: Unlocking bootloader, Flashing TWRP,  Installing superSU & resetting Logo

Turn on the developer mode

Go to setting, then to about phone. Tap the build number seven times, and now “you are now a developer”. Now go back, and tap the developer option. This is ‘on’ by default. And check the USB debugging mode. Just tap this debugging mode. And then press ok. Now the USB debugging mode is on the Moto E.

Booting in Boot-loader (fast-boot mode)

To unlock that, you have to go into fast-boot mode that is boot-loader mode. For that you can connect this phone to computer, and use adb commands to boot this phone into boot-loader mode, or by second method. For that turn off the phone, and when it’s shut down completely, then go to right Bessel and tap and hold the volume down key, and then power key for few seconds, and after few second release the power key, and then volume key. Now on the display you can see the adb fast boot flash mode.

Install android SDK

Go to google android developer site and download and then install google SDK. If you don’t wants this. You can download this adb setup file. It is around 9 MB. Once you have downloaded this, install this. Install adb driver also. Once you have completed that driver installation then there is no need for google SDK.

Unlocking boot-loader

In fast-boot mode connected phone to PC by micro USB data cable. Google search “unlocking Moto E”. See the Motorola site, saying unlocking support for boot-loader of Motorola.

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a

Enter the google account details, to login. And then you have to land on step 2 page. Then either copy the command from the site or type

fastboot oem get_unlock_data

Paste the output to page without space and then click “Can my device be unlocked?” If your device is unlockable, a “REQUEST UNLOCK KEY” button will now appear at the bottom of this page. Once seen, click this I agree, and tap “request unlock key”. You will get the unlock key on your mail, that you used, while registering with Motorola site. And now you have gone to this page. That is step 3. Now you have to type this command:

fastboot oem unlock unlock-key

The device will unlock. On the adb fast-boot mode, you can see that the device is unlocked and the status code is 3.

Flashing TWRP

Reboot the Moto E to Boot-loader and download the TWRP recovery for Moto E.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52724040&postcount=1

Once downloaded, put file the CMD pointing location and rename the file to recovery.img.  Else the command will not work. Once you have done that, run the command that is

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Now the TWRP is installed permanently on Moto E.

Flashing Super-SU files

Download the update super-SU and the file manager file, and then copy this into internal storage or external storage of Moto E.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053

Reboot phone into recovery either by adb commands or by key combinations

adb reboot recovery

The TEAM WIN recovery will load on the phone. Don’t touch the display of the phone. The TWRP is built on third party kernel, as Motorola has not release the kernel for Moto E, so the touch has some issues. Wait, for display to be off, this can take up to one minute. Once the display turns off, press the power button, and now the touch is working. Now from here tap install, and go down, and select update super SU file, and then tap add more to the zip, and then the filemanager. Now swipe to install zips. Once completed, reboot Moto E. Once rebooted, go to application draw, and here in the last you can see the super user app.  so the Moto E is successfully rooted

Flashing logo.bin

Boot moto E into boot-loader mode. Download this logo file.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2754582&d=1400621240

Now extract this file here. Copy it to the same location where the CMD is pointing. Now run this command:

fastboot flash logo logo.bin

Now when toy turn on the Moto E, you can see that the warning logo disappears, and the phone doesn’t show any warning message on boot up screen,

So by the help of couples of steps, Moto E can be rooted successfully.

  1. Unlocking boot-loader,
  2. Flashing TWRP recovery,
  3. Installing zips, and
  4. Flashing logo

You can control the music directly from the device, no need to go to phone, press the next track, and the next track starts playing. The main loudspeaker is quite loud. From the home screen, you can go to play, directly by pressing the play button.

Also you can see that the call on device and the device is also ringing. The OLED shows the name and the number of the incoming call. Moto E: Gaming Review, Asphalt 8, Temple run 2, Subway surf, Death trigger and Angry Bird Rio

Moto E is recently launched by Motorola at a price tag of 115 US $. Here is the full gaming experience on Moto E.

The first game is Asphalt 8. This game has some problem on S Duos 2. This game is of 1.4 GB, and on this phone only 2.2 GB is available for use. So for installing this game, you have to clean, lots of apps on this phone. The orientation sensor working fine and there is no lag. S Duos 2 is lagging lots on this game, but there is no problem with Moto E. The only problem is of memory. Loading such a HD game vanishes all storage of the Moto E. Now quit the game.

The next game is Temple run 2, this game is from Imangi studio. See the initial run of this game on our performance video. The Temple run 2 runs with any problem on Moto E, there is no hang, no lag and the viewing angle is great. The game runs smoothly. This is impressive.

The next game on Moto E is Subway surf, again this is chasing game, a police man is chasing you. You have to run on the rail track. Game is very straight. You have to save yourself from incoming thing and also with that man. The game runs without any problem. The game play is buttery smooth. And there is no lag, no hang and no stuck in the game play. You will love to play this game on Moto E.

The next game is Tikki monkey, this is from unity and milk cap. This is straight forward game, the monkey has stolen the treasure, and you had to shot the monkeys, without getting out. And collect the coins. The tikki monkey runs without any problem on Moto E, and there is no hang and no lag with the gameplay.

The next game is death trigger 2. This game requires internet to start. This game will take about 500 MB. With this and Asphalt 8, you can filled all the available storage on this phone. That is the only problem that I had found on Moto E. Else this phone is good for gaming. Asphalt 8, temple run 2 runs without any problem on Moto E. Death trigger 2 is a shooting game. If you love the shooting, then you will enjoy this game on your Moto E. I remember my childhood pistol, dichkhuu. I will love to play this game. Zombie I will kill you, I will lay you down. This game runs without any problem on Moto E.

Next is CPU-Z app, while performance review of Moto E, this app is crashing. Now it is working. This application shows the detail of CPU and GPU in first tab. In system tab you will see the model, manufacturer and others, and in the battery tab you will see the battery details like charge, temperature extras. On the list of sensors you will see the list of sensor supported by Moto E. So this time the CPU-Z is working on Moto E.

The last game that I had tried on Moto E is Angry bird go. The gameplay is quite smooth, the game is running well. There is no lag with gameplay, and all is buttery smooth.

In conclusion the Moto E is good in gaming, mind blowing performance and it is, top in the list of the phones up to 20 thousand rupees. If you ignore the low memory, then Moto E is a great phone and BCD Tech will recommend this. This phone is far better than Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2, Core, Grand, Grand 2, Micromax canvas, Karboon, Spice, Gionees and other phones that are double in price. If you are planning to buy a high performance phone, then Moto E is best in deal at 115 $ that is at 6999 rupees. Stay tune with us, to see the full review and tear down video on Moto E.

Moto E: How to insert SIM and micro SD card? Maximum storage greater than 64 GB

The Moto E, recently launched by Motorola at a price tag of 115 US $.

To insert the SIM and SD card, you had to take out this back, this back cover is only, open for that. There is no notch to remove the back cover. Try to pull out the back. This phone supports the Micro SIM. So you have to cut down the regular SIM for Moto E.

Now to insert SIM, align the SIM like that in video, the notch is toward phone and contact pads down, and then inserts the SIM into the tray. Use your finger nail to push the SIM in. You will hear the noise of clips. Similarly insert another SIM into second SIM tray. Clips noise confirms the proper insertion. The phone will ask for restarting to use SIM card, this means that the SIM on Moto E is not hot swappable. You have to restart Moto E each time, when you change the SIM, very bad.

Now to insert the SD card in to Moto E, take the card, and make the arrangement like that shown in video. Contact pads down, and then insert this into the phone. There is no clip noise while inserting. The maximum storage capable is 32 GB according to Moto E data sheet. Moto E can detect the card, but it is blank. So the 64 GB card is not working on Moto E. Is it is so, this card works on Galaxy star, and star pro. But this is not working on Moto E. What is the reason for that? You had to format this card, inside Moto G. This card will definitely works with my Moto E.

So in conclusion it is very easy to insert and eject the SIM card and the SD card in Moto E. The dual SIM capability along with high performance, make this best to buy at 115 $. Stay tune to us, to see how Moto E, performs on HD games and for many more videos.

Moto E launched at India at price of 6999 rupees with bundle of offers from Filpkart

vlcsnap-2014-05-15-13h58m13s109

Moto E has recently launched in India at Flipkart, with price tag of 6 thousand 9 hundred and 99 rupees that is 115 US $. This product is only sold by Flipkart in India and this will come in white and black colour.

You will get 3 benefits with this phone from Flipkart as a launch day offer:

1. 50% off on a later purchase of original Moto E back covers,
2. 50% off on a later purchase of a Transcend 8GB memory card and
3. Free preselected eBooks worth thousands rupees from Flipkart eBooks

One thing that the Flipkart has missed here is bill or invoice whatever you can say, it is missing inside the box. They will give this within few days by mail.

 vlcsnap-2014-05-15-13h58m48s202Box contents:

  1. Main Unit
  2.  Charger
  3. Earphone
  4. Manuals

This doesn’t come with USB cable charger. The earphones are very cheap, the build quality is low. Better to buy a good quality earphone, this is useless. As this is Indian variant, so you will get document like quick start guide and safety guide in Hindi. The Moto E is very comfortable in hand. This is quite bulky.

On the right Bessel, you will see the power on off standby button or key. Turn on the phone by pressing and holding this key for few seconds. Below that power key there is volume button. On the bottom of the phone there is USB data synching or charging micro USB port. No microphone pin hole, I think that is embedded inside this. There is nothing on the left side of the phone. On the top of the phone you will find 3.5 mm headphone jack and there is secondary microphone for noise cancellation. On the back of the phone you will see the 5 MP auto focus rear camera. There is no flash with the phone. On the front there is a 4.3 inch LCD display. This is protected by gorilla 3 glass, and here are couple of sensor on the front proximity and ambient light sensor, there is no front camera. There is no hardware button on the bottom.
You will get Kitkat out of box.

This phone has a very standard android Kitkat without any customization. This is stock android, you can see the real experience of kitkat on this device. The touch is responsive, the experience is buttery smooth. This phone has dual core 1.2 GHz cortex A7 QUALCOMM processor with adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB RAM. This phone has 4 GB of internal storage, out of that the total available space is 2.21 GB and out of that only 1.96 GB is available for use. And there is no SD card comes with the phone. Rest of memory is consumed in loading android OS. It is very difficult to load big HD game on this phone, due to low memory available.
The camera of the Moto E has almost same specification as of Moto G. You can also shot a HD video on this phone, the camera quality is so good, but at this price range, 5 MP is very impressive.

The back cover of Moto G is replaceable and this comes in more than 20 combinations. You can purchase this from Motorola site or Flipkart directly. This has matt finish on the back. The phone has 1980 mAh battery, this is not replaceable. This phone has a micro SD card slot which can extend the memory of Moto E upto 32 GB. This phone has dual SIM support.

In conclusion, with dual core 1.2 GHz QUALCOMM CPU, adreno 302 GPU, 4.3 inch LCD, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal memory, the moto E is very good to buy at price of 6999 rupees. I give this phone a pick. This is among the best phone in that price range, that is up to 10K.

While making, a video on tear down of this phone, I had broken my LCD and sub PBA PCB. It cost me around 7 thousand 6 hundred rupees that is equal to 125 US dollar to fix that. The cost of LCD assembly is around 4 thousand 6 hundred rupees i.e. 76 US $. The cost of S4 LCD is 100 $, which is greater than S5 LCD. Now my Galaxy S5 is working well.

The game, is temple run 2, this game is from Imangi studio. This game loaded very fast on S5. This game played very smoothly on other devices, let’s sees how it perform on Galaxy S5. The touch control is responsive. There is no game lag or hang. The control is working well and orientation sensor is working well. The viewing angle is nice.
At this stage, I want to mention an important point. If you turn on the power saving mode, with CPU and screen mode are selected, there is slight lag in graphics, and the game play is not so smooth. It is very difficult to play with such a graphics lag. So there is a very serious issue in the phone, in low performance mode the temple run 2 has problem. And without any restriction the game has no issue in graphics. If you turn on the restriction with only CPU performance and the screen output disabled. And then return to the game, you will see that the lag in the play. The graphics is lagging, and there is problem to play the game. In CPU restriction mode the 4 fastest 1.9 GHz A15 cores will turn off and 4 lowest speeds 1.3 GHz cores will work. The Micromax canvas, karbon phones has the 1.3 GHz quad core Mediatek CPU, and there is no problem with temple run 2 on that, the game play is buttery smooth. Here on S5, the low performance cores have the same speed and same in number, but the graphics is lagging.
Let’s see the phone without CPU restriction and Screen mode on. You will surprise to notice that game is running smoothly. As temple run 2 uses CPU, not GPU, of the phone to play. So over all, the Temple run 2 shows the actual performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5. And it is very disappointing to see that, the phone that was top on the performance list, has such a low performance core bug. That even this core cannot compete with its equivalent Mediatek phones CPU.
So in conclusion, it is much thought to say that “the galaxy S5 is good for gaming”, the CPU will not work as expected, and in the low performance mode there is serious issue with gameplay. Even the low graphic game temple run 2, runs with problems. So it is very bad deal to invest on S5, particularly if you are going for gaming. In full mode, this phone will drain the battery within 1-2 hours of gameplay. For our full review on the Game play of different games on S5, stay tune with our site.
